Thunder and lightning halted Europe’s march to victory at the Solheim Cup at Colorado Golf Club.

With England’s Charley Hull leading the way with a huge win over Paula Creamer, Europe needed just one more point to retain the Cup when the hooter went off and the weather halted play.

After a stunning 4-0 whitewash in Saturday afternoon’s fourballs, the defending champions needed just 3 ½ points to retain the Cup and the sensational 17-year-old Hull claimed the first important victory in the 12 singles.

Facing Paula Creamer in the second match, Woburn’s Hull, the youngest ever Solheim Cup player packed five birdies into 14 holes and beat the world No. 11 by 5 and 4 and had five birdies.

“I wasn’t too nervous,” said the super talented English teenager who won two out of three points. “It’s always the way I look at golf, I’m not going to die if I hit a bad shot.”

Anna Nordqvist then added another half point in the top match against Stacy Lewis, who won the Ricoh Women’s British Open Championship at St Andrews two weeks earlier.

Spanish rookie Carlota Ciganda brought the historic win even closer with a 4 and 2 triumph over Morgan Pressel.

Brittany Lang finally got a full point on the board for the USA with a 2 and 1 victory over Azahara Munoz.

The score was 13-7 for Europe when play came to the abrupt halt under leaden skies. In the eight matches left on the course, Europe was ahead in four matches, the USA were up in three and Suzann Pettersen and Lizette salas were all square.
