It’s all to play for heading into the final day of the 2026 Solheim Cup with Europe and the United States tied with eight points each at Bernardus Golf in The Netherlands.
At the start of the day, the teams were tied with four points each, but it was Europe who took advantage in the morning foursomes collecting three points out of a possible four.
With Europe leading 7-5, the afternoon four-balls saw the U.S. Team turnaround the momentum as they secured a 3-1 session win to leave the match tied at 8-8 with just the Sunday singles remaining.
“We’ve had a really good week. I love the team atmosphere,” said European Captain Anna Nordqvist. “The girls that didn’t play today came out to watch and support, get the crowds going. It’s been an unbelievable crowd, so it’s been really nice. It’s been really long days, but I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
Sweden’s Maja Stark and Linn Grant secured two points on Friday with a 3&2 victory over Allisen Corpuz and Nelly Korda in the foursomes followed by a 2&1 win over Megan Khang and Lauren Coughlin in the four-balls.
It was a good day for Stark who chipped in for eagle on the eighth in her morning match and holed out from the fairway on the opening hole of her afternoon match.
European rookies Mimi Rhodes and Nastasia Nadaud continued their good form in their Solheim Cup debuts securing a 4&3 win over Andrea Lee and Auston Kim in their morning foursomes.
Similarly, Leona Maguire and Esther Henseleit also clinched their second point of the tournament with a 1 up victory over Jennifer Kupcho and Rose Zhang.
Maguire clinched her 10th career Solheim Cup win in her 14th match and broke the record for the fastest to 10 wins in terms of matches played.
The United States sealed their only point of the morning session with a thumping win for Alison Lee and Lauren Coughlin over Charley Hull and Lottie Woad. They secured a 6&5 victory after 13 holes with the result tying the record for the largest margin of victory in foursomes in Solheim Cup history.
In the afternoon four-balls, Yealimi Noh and Andrea Lee defeated Woad and Hull 1 up in a match that went all the way to the 18th hole. Meanwhile, Zhang and Kim produced a 3&2 victory over France’s Nadaud and Ireland’s Maguire.
The final match of the afternoon four-balls was full of twists and turns with neither team maintain their advantage as Carlota Ciganda and Céline Boutier faced off against Kupcho and Lindy Duncan.
Europe had led for the majority of the match before Kupcho rolled in a 90-foot putt from off the green on 17 to level the match. She then rolled in her birdie on 18 to win the match 1 up and leave the total scores at 8-8 heading into the final day of action.
U.S. Captain Angela Stanford said: “That was huge. that absolutely turned our tide. I thought if we get out of here at 7-9, we still have a chance. Then I thought 7½ to 8½ that’s better, but that turned the tide. I don’t think those players know what they just did.”
With the teams tied at 8-8, the U.S. just need 14 points to retain the cup they won last time out with Europe needing 14½ points to win the trophy back.
Sunday singles begins at 11.10 am (local time) with the final pair teeing off at 1.22 pm (local time) in The Netherlands.
