It’s been one year since Lottie Woad won on her professional debut at the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open.
The world number five had a quick rise to the top winning on the Ladies European Tour (LET) at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open as an amateur before securing her LPGA card, turning professional, and then securing victory in Scotland.
Woad returns to Dundonald Links this year with another LPGA Tour title under her belt and is excited to be back.
“I definitely have special memories and positive ones coming into this week. To come back to a place that I’ve played well and I’ve played before,” said Woad. “Coming here last year, I was coming off a good stretch and everything happened pretty quickly.
“I was trying to get my LPGA card and then make my pro debut and then I was winning here and it was AIG the next week. Everything happened so quickly and now it’s been a year and I’ve had time to reflect on it, it’s definitely more special than maybe I thought at the time.”
Dundonald Links is hosting this week’s ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open for the fifth consecutive year.
The co-sanctioned event between the LET and LPGA Tour sees a field of 144 players representing 33 nationalities teeing it up from July 23-26.
With the UK having been in a heatwave recently, the course is playing a little differently than last year but Woad believes players can still be aggressive.
“I played both nines now. It’s just a little firmer than last year, which it was very soft last year. It’s playing more how it’s meant to be played, but you did expect that with the warm weather that we’ve been having,” she explained.
“It’s not way different, I think you’re hitting it further off the tee and you’re getting runs and you have short clubs in. The wedges last year were spinning back, and you could play at every pin where this year, you have to allow for four or five yards with a wedge but you can still be pretty aggressive.”
In a repeat of 2025, Woad will be playing alongside world number one Nelly Korda and England’s Charley Hull for the first two days in Scotland.
She added: “I hope it goes the same as last year, let’s keep things the same.”
