In-form Casandra Alexander is looking to end the Ladies European Tour (LET)’s Aussie swing on a high this week and land victory at the Australian WPGA Championship.
The big-hitting South African has enjoyed a wonderful start to 2026 finishing runner-up at the season-opener in Riyadh before claiming top-six finishes at Magenta Shores and Kooyonga in Australia.
At the latter, the Women’s Australian Open in Adelaide, Alexander played in the final group on Sunday alongside Major winner Hannah Green to eventually finish T4, five shots behind the Australian.
The winning mindset is now stronger than ever for Alexander as she tees up at the LET’s fourth and final co-sanctioned event with the WPGA of Australasia.
“It wasn’t the result we were looking for the first two weeks,” the South African said. “Hannah [Green] played unbelievable last week so we knew it was going to be a tough one. Hopefully the game comes together this week. It takes more than just good golf to win golf tournaments. You need a little bit of luck on your side and things to go your way. Last one up, let’s see if we can get it done.”
Green, World No 7, is in the field once again this week and is the only player teeing up with a higher Rolex Ranking than Alexander who has ascended to a career-best World No 43. She hopes to go toe-to-toe with the seven-time LPGA winner again in Australia, this time at Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club.
Alexander said: “I snuck into the final group with Hannah and I was like, ‘that’s going to be insane’ because the Aussie fans came out huge last week and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be big again this week. The final group is always lovely and being in it in Australia with an Australian is pretty cool. I really, really enjoyed last week and it had that Major feel to it.
“I’ve played with some top players before and she hits it as well as anyone. She strikes it well and is a very smart player. Lovely girl too. We spoke a bit about our connection to Ashleigh Buhai because her husband, Dave, caddies for her. I learned a lot and it was lovely playing with her. Maybe we’ll get a chance this week in the final group.”
Aside from the trophy, a place at the Chevron Championship is also up for grabs can Alexander secure a top finish and break into the world’s top-40.
“It’s the cutoff for Chevron next week and I’m 43rd so right on the cut line,” the 26-year-old said. “If we have a half decent week this week we should jump into the top 40 and get into Chevron. It will mean missing some home tournaments [in South Africa], but you can never say no to a Major. A lot on the line.
As for this week’s track, Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club just outside Gold Coast, Alexander is expecting a much different test to the past two weeks. She will also be relying on some home comforts away from the stunning course in Queensland.
“The course is very different this week,” the South African said. “It’s super grainy so you’ll be really good at reading grains around the greens, whether it’s chipping or putting. Even hitting into the fairways. Knowing how that works and having to adapt your game to that is very important. It’s going to be a good week. It’s going to be a fun one. I think the scoring is going to be really low so it will be excited.
“Me and Maha [Haddioui] are getting hosted by a South African family this week at the course. They’re loving it and we’re loving it. We’ve already had a braai so happy days. It feels a bit like home this week so I’m very excited.”
Alexander gets underway at the Australian WPGA Championship on Thursday at 7:15 local time playing alongside Australian duo Hannah Reeves and Jazy Roberts.
