- European Team will be named after 2026 AIG Women’s Open
The qualification period for the European Team ahead of the 20th edition of the Solheim Cup was today confirmed by the Ladies European Tour (LET).
The European qualification period for the Solheim Cup at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands began at the 2024 La Sella Open and will end following the conclusion of the 2026 AIG Women’s Open, which will be played at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
Team Europe will consist of the top two eligible players from the LET Solheim Cup points list, the top six eligible players on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and four captain’s picks.
Solheim Cup points will be earned in 2026 through finishing in the top 10 at Ladies European Tour (LET) events, in the top 20 at events co-sanctioned between the LET and LPGA Tour, and the top 20 at Major Championships with the points being double the value of those in 2024-2025.
Following the end of play at the AIG Women’s Open, the players who have earned their spot during the European qualification period for the Solheim Cup at Bernardus Golf will be announced.
The captain’s picks will then be announced in due course after 2 August, with European Solheim Cup Captain Anna Nordqvist aided by Vice Captains Caroline Hedwall, Mel Reid and Anne Van Dam when deciding who will be part of the European Team seeking to win back the Solheim Cup at Bernardus Golf.
Nordqvist said: “I am delighted to be able to confirm the details of the qualifying period for our 2026 European Solheim Cup Team. The AIG Women’s Open marks a great final event for the qualifying period as we look to win back the Solheim Cup in front of our home fans. I’m excited for the year ahead and to see who will be on the team in September.”
The 2026 Solheim Cup will be held in the Netherlands for the first time with Bernardus Golf hosting the prestigious biennial competition from 11-13 September 2026.
Since its opening in 2018, Bernardus has hosted three editions of the KLM Dutch Open on the DP World Tour (2021-2023) and is ready and well positioned to provide a spectacular stage for the Solheim Cup 2026. As one of the premier events in women’s sports, spectators can look forward to an exceptional experience where sports, entertainment, and hospitality blend seamlessly at the highest level.
The last European edition in 2023 took place in Spain at Finca Cortesín, ending with a dramatic 14-14 tie with Europe retaining the Solheim Cup while the U.S. triumphed 15 ½ -12 ½ at the latest instalment in Virginia.
