MACLAREN PROUD OF REGAINING LET CARD AFTER HITTING “ROCK BOTTOM”

Meghan MacLaren

Meghan MacLaren has her full playing rights on the Ladies European Tour (LET) once again after finishing in the top 20 at Lalla Aicha Q-School in December.

The three-time LET winner had limited status in 2025 playing in 15 events and making nine cuts.

MacLaren headed to Morocco and secured her card on the number producing rounds of 68-69-70-73 to finish in a share of 16th place on 10-under-par.

“I don’t really know what to say,” she said after the final round in Morocco. “I think if I talk for long enough, I will start crying. There’s been so much that has happened over the past couple of years golf-wise and this week probably encapsulated the fact I don’t like to do things the easy way.

“I played really well all week and coming into this week, I felt like I was a different person compared to this week last year. I was three-over after five holes today and it felt like everything was going to slip away. I’m really proud of what I did today, but I’m prouder of what I’ve done over the last year/six months.”

MacLaren has been open about her struggles with her game across the past couple of seasons and admitted she felt at rock bottom again earlier this year.

However, that has given her even more pride in being able to make it to Q-School and secure her card.

“This year has been a bit of a strange year because I was at such a low point for the majority of last season,” she explained. “Things fell apart and I did not think I would be able to play the kind of golf I’ve played this week again.

“This year has been rebuilding and seeing little bits of belief again. In Tenerife, so June this year which wasn’t that long ago, I felt like I hit rock bottom again and I didn’t see a way out to be honest.

“I’m immensely grateful to my coach Shane Rose for helping me get back on track and making me believe I could be here doing this and competing at the highest level again. Also, the support of Brew [Becky Brewerton] and my family and just being here to support me and reminding me that I’m capable of a lot of things, more than I ever thought. It’s pretty special.”

The last event MacLaren played in 2025 was the Hero Women’s Indian Open and she made sure to put in the work ahead of competing at Q-School.

With her card now secured, the 31-year-old is looking forward to being back on the LET stage and having more freedom on the golf course.

She added: “It means everything. That six-week/two-month period I feel like I put the final pieces back together. I felt like I really knew I had done the work I needed to and now it’s almost reminding myself of the things I’m really good at. My practice over the last six weeks has shown me that.

“Q-School was the case of can I get the job done and then look forward to what’s ahead. There were still immense levels of stress here this week, but to now have the freedom to go and play next year. I feel like I’m a better golfer than I’ve ever been before. I’ve had success in the past, but I feel I can go up another level.”
