GIMMY ENJOYING FIRST TIME IN INDIA AND THE CHALLENGE OF DLF

Verena Gimmy

Germany’s Verena Gimmy sits in second place at the halfway stage of the 2025 Hero Women’s Indian Open.

It is the German’s first appearance in the tournament and first trip to India and she is making the most of her experience.

Gimmy produced rounds of 68 (-4) and 70 (-2) on the first two days to be in T2 on six-under-par at the 36-hole mark.

The 31-year-old had heard about the challenge of DLF Golf and Country Club and was pleased to be performing well around the difficult course.

“I love the course,” said Gimmy. “I like it when it’s quirky and tough and you have to think a little bit. I’m very confident off the tee, I grinded today around the greens and made a lot of good up-and-downs.

“It wasn’t as easy and flawless as yesterday, but I’m very happy with my round. It’s really important to be in the fairway, the second cut is really tough here. I hit lots of fairways and got a few chances. On 18, I made an up-and-down from 90 metres for par, I’m glad my coach is here and we worked a lot on my pitching.

“It’s been a few years where I was close to playing and then never really got the chance to go because it was so last minute. This year I really wanted to see what the fuss is about. It’s a great course, I really enjoy it. I like courses that are tough and you can focus a lot more.”

It’s an important week for Gimmy, who currently sits 140th in the LET Order of Merit, with just three events of the season remaining after this week.

Players who finish in the top 70 at the end of the season in the rankings will retain their card for 2026.

The German would jump approximately 30-40 places in the rankings with a top-10 finish in India, however, she’s not putting too much pressure on herself.

She added: “I’m trying not to think about my status for next year too much, I’m trying to enjoy every single hole and play as much as I can. We will see what happens. My highlight was probably my birdie on 14, it’s probably the toughest hole on this course. I hit a great shot to nine feet and holed the putt.”
