By La Sella Open

La Sella Open has established itself as a benchmark for sustainability in European women’s golf. Held at La Sella Golf, adjacent to the Montgó Natural Park, the tournament integrates environmentally responsible practices to help preserve its natural surroundings.

The course is maintained using eco-friendly products and intelligent irrigation systems that optimize water usage. The entire course is planted with Bermuda grass, a variety renowned for its resilience to high temperatures and low water usage. The grass type requires significantly less irrigation and fewer chemical treatments, making it an ideal choice for both playability and environmental impact.

La Sella Golf uses water exclusively from a nearby wastewater treatment plant, helping to conserve high- quality freshwater sources. Thanks to this reclaimed water and a state-of-the-art irrigation system that maximizes efficiency, the course now uses over 60% less water than before. Additionally, all temporary infrastructure is designed with recyclable and sustainable materials, minimizing waste throughout the event.

The tee boxes at each hole have been designed and created using natural plants, which will be relocated to their original environment once the tournament concludes, ensuring they remain unharmed. This initiative reinforces La Sella Open’s sustainable commitment, aiming to minimize environmental impact across all aspects of the event by promoting responsible practices that respect local biodiversity.

For the 2025 edition, the tournament takes a decisive step towards a single-use plastic-free experience. All players, caddies, and volunteers are provided with reusable aluminium bottles, and chilled water stations—directly connected to the main supply—are installed every three holes.

This system eliminates plastic use and the need for manual water tank refills, significantly reducing the tournament’s ecological footprint.

La Sella Open’s environmental commitment is a long-term pledge that positions the tournament as a leading example of how professional sport can function with environmental responsibility. In doing so, the event goes beyond golf, setting a new standard for sustainable sporting events and proving that high-level competition and respect for nature can go hand in hand.
