Germany’s Helen Briem enters this week’s Hulencourt Women’s Open with renewed confidence following a strong runner-up finish at the Tenerife Ladies Open.
“I’m really happy with last week’s result, especially since the course didn’t suit my game at all,” said the 19-year-old. “I was hitting more four-irons off the tee than drivers, and the course was challenging overall – particularly the greens. But I found my rhythm in the end and managed to avoid many mistakes, which made a big difference.”
Briem is part of a 132-player field competing at Hulencourt, which is hosting the tournament for the first time. She’s optimistic that the Belgian layout will play more to her strengths.
“Performing well on a course that doesn’t match your game is always a confidence boost,” she said. “This course seems to suit me a bit better – it’s longer and more straightforward. I’m excited to get started.”
The 2024 LET Rookie of the Year winner has been putting in focused work on her short game, especially her putting.
“My putting has definitely improved. I’m not making too many bogeys, but also not too many birdies either – it’s a solid, consistent game right now,” she explained. “It’s a great course here – the facilities, the clubhouse, everything feels top-level. If the weather holds like it did in Tenerife, we’re in for a great week.”
Briem continues to be supported by a close-knit family team, with her father regularly on the bag.
“My dad’s always been part of my journey – my caddie, my travel buddy, and sometimes my coach. We’ve always done things our own way, and not much has changed. It’s amazing to have him by my side, especially since life on Tour means being away from home a lot.”

Golf is a family affair for the Briems. Helen’s younger sister, currently competing in amateur events, is showing promise of her own.
“She’s five years younger but already making great strides. She’s strong and powerful – we’ll see where her game takes her.”
The entire Briem family plans to be in Belgium this week. “My sister’s still playing a tournament right now, but once she’s done, they’ll all join us here. I’m really looking forward to that.”
