As Cyclone Alfred hit the east coast of Australia last week causing the Australian WPGA Championship to be cancelled, an abundance of golf clubs came together in an incredible coalition of generosity to support displaced players.
For over 30 Ladies European Tour (LET) players, a popular landing spot was the Central Coast area in New South Wales – home to Magenta Shores Golf Course and Kooindah Waters Golf Club.
The latter played host to four LET stars in particular; English duo Ellie Givens and Hannah Burke, as well as Spaniards Ana Pelaez Trivino and Maria Hernandez.
Having allowed them to use the course and practice facilities throughout the week, all four players decided to give back to the club hosting a clinic for the female members on Friday afternoon.
“Due to the generosity of these players, our Kooindah ladies were treated to a VIP one-on-one fireside chat and inside clinic with the four girls for around 90 minutes,” Dave Stretton said, the club’s general manager. “What an opportunity and what an experience for our Kooindah Ladies.”
Givens, now in her 14th season on Tour, said: “Dave and Danielle as well as Kooindah Waters and Magenta Shores have been extremely welcoming to us this week so we wanted to try and give something back.
“When Dave suggested a ladies clinic we all loved the idea and had a lot of fun chatting to the ladies and answering their many questions! We spoke about our daily lives and travel adventures then gave them some tips and tricks to help their games.”
While compatriot and LET winner Burke added: “We are so grateful how the people and clubs in the area were so keen to help us out at such short notice. It was a pleasure to return to the area and have the option to prepare for our upcoming events on courses in fantastic condition.”
Next week the LET heads to Coffs Harbour for the 2025 Australian Women’s Classic. With the weather drying up following the trauma of Cyclone Alfred, everyone at the Tour would like to thank the Australian golf community and industry for their incredible support over the past five days.
Stretton continued: “The girls are heading to Coffs Harbour early this week and we wish them all the very best over the next two weeks, and thank you for visiting and being part of our little golf community at Kooindah Waters.
“We have been hosting four LET players and it has been a great experience to get to know these girls and the life they lead.”
