Following a short break the Ladies European Tour (LET) is in Delhi this week for the 16th staging of the Hero Women’s Indian Open.
An event which has continued to prove popular for members over the years, 114 players from 31 nations will compete for the trophy in the 27th event of the 2024 season.
DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram, a financial hub on the outskirts of New Delhi, will once against play host for the seventh edition in a row.
Consistently ranked as one of the best venues in India, the Gary Player designed par-72 championship course provides a tough test featuring picturesque elevation and several water hazards.
The players will be battling it out for a prize fund of USD $400,000 when play gets under way on Thursday 24 October. The winner of the 72-hole event will be crowned on Sunday 27th October.
Aline Krauter was victorious last time out when she dominated the field to win by five shots and land her maiden LET title.
The German is not in Delhi to defend her title this year, but past champions Christine Wolf (2019) from Austria, Becky Morgan (2018) from Wales, Camille Chevalier (2017) from France and Caroline Hedwall (2011) from Sweden are all in the field.
On top of this quartet, six winners from the 2024 season are in town hoping to put on another trophy winning performance.
This includes Order of Merit number one Chiara Tamburlini – winner of most recent Wistron Ladies Open in Taiwan – Belgium’s Manon De Roey, France’s Perrine Delacour, Singapore’s Shannon Tan as well as English duo Alice Hewson and Amy Taylor.
With three victories to her name this season, rookie Tamburlini can wrap up the Order of Merit if she betters De Roey’s result by 10 points. Two tournaments remain after the Hero Women’s Indian Open with the Swiss star leading the standings by 991.98 points.
A total of 26 Indian players will be looking to make their mark in front of the home fans including Olympian Diksha Dagar.
The two-time LET winner is joined by local stars Vani Kapoor and Amandeep Drall, as well as Pranavi Urs and Tvesa Malik. All the above will be aiming to follow in the footstep of Aditi Ashok who lifted the trophy on home soil in 2016.
No fewer than 10 players have been given invites into the tournament. This list includes LPGA star Maria Fassi from Mexico. The Olympian was given an invite to compete at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco earlier this year where she finished T3. See the full list of entries here.
