- Helen Briem wins her first Ladies European Tour (LET) title
- The German teenager turned professional at the end of July and also has four wins on the LET Access Series this year
Helen Briem fired a bogey-free final round of 66 (-6) to win the 2024 La Sella Open with a total of 18-under-par and clinch her first victory on the Ladies European Tour (LET).
The German teenager began the day as the 54-hole leader and got off to a good start at La Sella Golf Resort making a birdie on her first hole.
Briem, who is a four-time winner on the LET Access Series (LETAS), continued to impress on a flawless final day with birdies on holes seven and nine, as well as 12 and 15.
With France’s Pauline Roussin-Bouchard only one shot behind the 19-year-old coming down the last, the German star rolled in her sixth birdie of the day on 18 to secure a two-shot victory.
“Currently, I have no words! It’s just incredible, it’s my first event on the LET as a professional and my third overall. I’m just really proud,” said Briem, who had already secured her LET card for 2025 through LETAS.
“Being in a battle like that is what the most fun is. It was a great battle, both on the fairways, on the tees and on the putting green. It was amazing. I’m pretty relaxed all the time, I just tried to maintain that and to have done it at the end, it’s great.
“I was surprised that I was down as the favourite going into this tournament, I was a little shocked when I found that out after round one but I’m happy to have done it and I’m looking forward to the future.”
It was also a flawless final day for Roussin-Bouchard who fired a round of 65 (-7) to finish in outright second place on 16-under-par.
The two-time LET winner also finished second two weeks ago at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open and is delighted to be in a rich vein of form.
“There is nothing I can really say! I was seven-under, no bogeys, 14-under for the weekend – it’s not every day that you do that and especially two rounds in a row without a bogey,” said the Frenchwoman.
“Honestly, solid from tee to green and just a perfect dance with my caddie. It’s two weeks in a row because we started working together in Ireland and finished second and then second this week. I’ve spent my days singing very badly and laughing and I had no clue about the scores and we kept it that way until the end.
“It was fun and it was nice to watch. Helen played amazing golf, she has a very complete game and it’s impressive to watch. I did my best while I was having fun – no regrets!”
Czechia’s Sara Kouskova finished her week in third place on 13-under-par after a final round of 68 (-5) in Spain.
The result is the best finish Kouskova has had in her two seasons on the LET and she was pleased with her week’s work.
“I’m very happy,” said the Czech star. “It’s my best result on the LET so far, it’s been a great week with lots of good shots. Yesterday I was a little nervous at some of the holes, but today I said I wasn’t going to look at any of the leaderboards which is what I did and it was nice.
“I held up pretty well. I tried to score some more birdies at the end, but I wasn’t too close there and I made some very good par saves. I’m very happy overall, five-under today was a good finish. Happy with what we did here and it’s really nice to see the work we’ve put in over the past weeks has paid off. I’m excited for more.”
Spain’s Ana Peláez Trivino ended the week in fourth place on 11-under-par with Sweden’s Sofie Bringner in fifth on 10-under and Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom sixth on nine-under-par.
Five players rounded out the top 10 with India’s Pranavi Urs, Spain’s Luna Sobron Galmes, Japan’s Ayako Uehara, Denmark’s Smilla Tarning Soenderby and Italy’s Virginia Elena Carta all in T7 on eight-under-par.
In the LET Order of Merit, Switzerland’s Chiara Tamburlini continues to lead the way with 1,418.44 points followed by England’s Bronte Law and Belgium’s Manon De Roey.
France’s Roussin-Bouchard has moved up the rankings from 12th to sixth and now has 1,186.68 points to her name.
Next up for the LET is a trip to France for the 2024 edition of the Lacoste Ladies Open de France which will be held at Golf Barriere, Deauville from 26-28 September.
