TAMBURLINI TRYING TO HAVE FUN FOR REST OF THE YEAR

Chiara Tamburlini

Chiara Tamburlini sits at the top of the Ladies European Tour (LET) Order of Merit and Rookie of the Year standings.

The Swiss star finished in outright fourth place in Ireland to climb to the top of the rankings ahead of England’s Bronte Law and Belgium’s Manon De Roey.

Tamburlini won her maiden LET title earlier this year at the Joburg Ladies Open and has had five further top-10 finishes.

The 24-year-old is making her first appearance at La Sella Open which is being played at La Sella Golf Resort from 19-22 September.

And the LET winner is hoping to use her time at Ole Miss to her advantage as she takes on bermuda grass this week.

“I know it was voted tournament of the year last year,” said Tamburlini. “The course is good, I love the hotel and the pool. It’s such a vacation vibe which is nice.

“The rough is definitely not the easiest. When I was in college, we played on bermuda for all four years so that definitely helped. I needed to think back a little bit and remember what I used to do.

“I feel quite confident, it’s tricky in chipping and the rough in general. When the ball sits down, it’s tough to judge how it’s going to come out. Plan is hit the fairway, hit the green.”

After the KPMG Women’s Irish Open, there was a break on the LET schedule with one week off followed by the Solheim Cup.

Tamburlini still had quite a full on fortnight playing golf, as well as seeing family and friends.

Despite being at the top of the rankings, the Swiss winner is just trying to have fun and enioy the rest of the season.

“I went to Finland to see my boyfriend, played in some Pro-Ams, had some sponsor days,” she continued.

“I practiced and saw some friends. It was good. Winter is starting at home a little bit, but it was okay! I was still quite busy, but I’m not very good at being chilled.

“I will try and do as well as I can and hit a lot of fairways because the fairways are definitely not wide. Hit a lot of fairways, a lot of greens and hopefully drop some putts. I’m just trying to have fun with still a long time left in the season.”

Tamburlini will tee it up in the first round at 2.32 pm (local time) from the 10th tee alongside England’s Law and Belgium’s De Roey.
