It’s been a steady start to the Women’s Olympic Golf Competition for Aditi Ashok as she sits in a share of 14th place after two days.
At the midway mark, the Indian star has produced rounds of 72 (E) and 71 (-1) to have a total score of one-under alongside four other players including her teammate Diksha Dagar.
Ashok began round two with bogeys on the third and fifth holes before making four birdies in a row on holes six to nine.
The five-time LET winner dropped another shot on the 12th but made six pars to finish and be in the top 20 with two rounds to go.
“The wind picked up [on the back nine] and birdies were tough to come by,” said Ashok. “I only had two looks, the par-5 18, obviously and on 14. Those were the ones where I had close looks and I missed a six-footer on 14. That was the only chance I feel like I had.
“Those four birdies at least put me back in a good frame of mind, I was back to making pars and missing birdies putts, but obviously I would have like to be more under par than one-under.
“I think the back nine is tricky. The finishing holes are tricky. Of course, it’s one of the greatest courses; we know that.
“Just these finishing holes, you get the par-5 and after that, unless you hit a good shot, you can almost drop a shot. It’s one of those, where if you hit a good shot, you’re making birdie but if not, there’s a lot of trouble.”
The Indian star finished in fourth place at Tokyo 2020 and is hoping to claim a coveted medal this week at Le Golf National.
With two rounds to go, it’s still all to play for as Ashok sits seven strokes behind leader Morgane Metraux and four strokes off the medal positions.
The third round of competition in golf is more commonly known as moving day and the 26-year-old is hoping to take advantage of that.
She added: “It is scoreable. Today I saw the scores and some players have shot really low rounds, so I know there’s a low round out there. I just have to go out there and shoot it. Usually, the third day is moving day, so I’m just going [out there] with that mindset.”
