After an enthralling final round at the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open – one which saw Spain’s Marta Martin cruise to victory – the Ladies European Tour (LET) heads to Switzerland this week for the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open.
It is the fifth consecutive edition of the tournament following an eight-year hiatus, with Wales’ Amy Boulden (2020), Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul (2021), England’s Liz Young (2022), and Germany’s Alexandra Försterling the last four victors.
Situated just south of Zurich and overlooking the picturesque Lake Zug, Golfpark Holzhäusern is once again on hosting duties for the fifth year in a row.
Known for its stunning views and mountainous backdrop, the par-71 Golfpark Holzhäusern offers a unique challenge with accuracy off the tee a crucial factor.
A total of 131 players from 33 nations will tee up in Switzerland for the 54-hole stroke play tournament. The event marks the 16th event of the 2024 LET season.
Offering a prize fund of €300,000, the winner of this year’s VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open will be crowned on Sunday 30 June following a cut of the top 60 players and ties after round two.
Unfortunately Försterling – now confirmed for the 2024 Olympic Games – is not present in Switzerland to defend her title. Three past champions are in town, however, with Young joined by South Africa’s Lee-Anne Pace (2010) and Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord (2009).
On the home front, Chiara Tamburlini will be leading the charge as her nation’s highest ranked player in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings competing this week (World No 159).
The 24-year-old, currently fourth in the Order of Merit, has one victory to her name in 2024 after winning the Joburg Ladies Open. She currently leads the Rookie of the Year race.
Tamburlini is joined by 13 other Swiss players including Kim Metraux, Tiffany Arafi, Elena Moosmann, and PING Junior Solheim Cup (PJSC) winner Yana Beeli.
Elsewhere, England’s Amy Taylor will be teeing up two weeks on from clinching her maiden LET title at the Ladies Italian Open.
Last year’s runner up, Norwegian Madelene Stavnar, is also in the field, while the in form Emma Spitz will be hoping to improve her position in the Order of Merit (the Austrian sits 10th). The full entry list can be found here.
