FIELD BREAKDOWN: 2024 LADIES ITALIAN OPEN

The Ladies European Tour (LET) is back in Lazio this week as our stars tee up for the 27th edition of the Ladies Italian Open.

A field of 132 players from 34 nations will be competing in a 54-hole stroke play competition with a cut to the top 60 professionals and ties after the second round.

The field is made up of 11 invites alongside 121 LET players from several different categories.

The winner from 2022, Switzerland’s Morgane Metraux is sadly not in the field to defend her crown but past champions Florentyna Parker (2014) and Marianne Skarpnord (2009) are both in town.

Two winners from the 2024 LET season will be vying to add another title with rookies Chiara Tamburlini from Switzerland and Shannon Tan from Singapore both in the field.

On the home front, 10 Italian players will be taking to the fairways at Golf Nazionale including their highest ranked player from the Rolex Rankings, Alessandra Fanali.

The 24-year-old made headlines in 2022 when, teeing up as an amateur, she finished runner-up to Metraux in a dramatic playoff which also featured England’s Meghan MacLaren.

Fanali is joined by Virginia Elena Carta with the pair set to star for Italy in the Paris Olympic Games this summer.

Elsewhere, four amateurs will be teeing up this week including PING Junior Solheim Cup and Junior Ryder Cup players Francesca Fiorellini and Anna Davis. The latter made headlines in 2022 when at 16-years-old, she won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.

There is also a welcomed return to action this week for Australia’s Whitney Hillier after an injury layoff.

Rookies are plentiful with 20 first year graduates in the field at Golf Nazionale. Finally, there are no fewer than 30 LET winners teeing up with a combined 65 wins on the circuit.
