To celebrate our 45th anniversary, the LET wants to recognise the sacrifice and devotion of this group of distinguished women and honour them through a video series named “Celebrating the Founders”.
During their 45th reunion at Thorpeness Golf Club, the LET met and interviewed eight of the founding members and two early members to learn about the early years on tour, what they’ve done since and reflect on how far the LET has come.
To kick off the video series, who better than Christine Langford, the brainchild behind the reunion and keen advocate for not letting the LET’s history be forgotten.

In 1978 when the LET (then named the Women’s Professional Golfers’ Association – WPGA) started to form, Langford was playing on the LPGA.
When whispers of an English tour were heard, Langford was thrilled to hear that she had a chance to play closer to home.
In a risky move, she came back in 1979 to play the first LET event, the Carlsberg Championship at Tyrrells Wood.
The risk paid off, Chris went on to win three times and place runner-up twice in her first season.
In her post-tour life, Langford has continued to be a pioneer in women’s golf and became the first woman professional to be appointed as a Head Pro at a committee-run members club in the UK.
A five-time winner on the tour, Langford laid the way for future LET winners. Her part in building our tour must be celebrated.
