- The Floridian makes her debut in the innovative team series as she prepares to kick off her season in this unique event
Two-time Major champion Brittany Lincicome is looking to make her home advantage count, with the experienced LPGA star ready to tee it up at the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Tampa from March 8-10.
The innovative event series, which sees an amateur paired with three professionals in the team event, will debut in Tampa Bay at the Feather Sound Country Club, a course that the 2024 Solheim Cup Assistant Captain knows like the back of her hand.
Speaking ahead of the Ladies European Tour (LET) event, Lincicome was full of praise for the course and the Tampa Bay area, taking immense pride in the chance to compete in a competition so close to home.
“It’s just a beautiful place, I love going there,” said Lincicome of the championship-ready Feather Sound Country Club. “Just to be able to have other Tour players come see my area and see this golf course is going to be a real treat because they’re going to absolutely love it.
“Obviously, being just 30 minutes from my house I’m looking forward to maybe some family and friends coming out to watch and support.”
The unique event format, where the amateur can contribute to the team’s score, has certainly piqued Lincicome’s interest, with the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Tampa set to be her debut in the series.
After the first two days of the tournament, the team trophy will be awarded to the lowest-scoring team, before the professionals battle it out on the final day to determine the individual winner of the event.
“It’s such a cool component to it and it’s something different,” said Lincicome. “We’re always evolving the game of golf and always growing and to have the team competition with amateurs and then going into singles, why not?
“If an amateur wants to come out and try to tee it up with a pro, I mean more power to them. I think it’s totally welcome and going to be fun for the fans to come out and watch!”
The team golf element will certainly set the tempo for the year for Lincicome, with the eight-time Tour winner appointed as one of the 2024 Solheim Cup Assistant Captains for Team USA.
Whilst the request from Team USA Captain Stacy Lewis came at an unexpected moment for Lincicome, the opportunity to represent her country once again was a truly special request.
“I was playing at the Bradenton Country Club earlier this year, and Stacy Lewis and I were just walking out of daycare with our girls together,” recalls Lincicome.
“Stacy said something along the lines of, ‘would you want to be an assistant captain?’ and I thought she meant maybe down the road somewhere.
“I didn’t realize until a few seconds later, and then it dawned on me and I thought, gosh, my hair is definitely blonde! I got chills, and said, yes, I would love to be a part of it! This is such a great honour.
“I should have some good knowledge to be able to help the team out, whether that’s calming the nerves on the first tee or just making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, I’m not sure.
“But I’m just super excited. Anytime you get the chance to wear your country’s colors and represent your country… it’s just the coolest feeling in the world.”
Heading to Feather Sound Country Club from 8-10 March, Lincicome will be joined in the field by 2023 Solheim Cup Team USA players Lexi Thompson and Megan Khang, who are set to go head-to-head with Team Europe’s Charley Hull and Carlota Ciganda.
