FIELD BREAKDOWN: 2024 LALLA MERYEM CUP

The Ladies European Tour (LET) moves from Riyadh to Rabat this week for the Lalla Meryem Cup from February 22-24.

The tournament is back for its 27th edition at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam and will once again see the field compete for a €450,000 prize fund.

A field of 108 players will tee it up in a 54-hole stroke play competition, while there will be a cut to the top 60 professionals and ties after round two.

It is a packed field made up of 11 invites and 98 LET players including one LET Order of Merit winner, Thailand’s Trichat Cheenglab.

Mexican star and LPGA player Maria Fassi is also teeing up as an invitee.

There are players from 33 countries including five Moroccans; Ines Laklalech, Maha Haddioui, Lina Belmati, Malak Bouraeda and 14-year-old amateur Sofia Cherif Essakali who is the youngest player in the field.

13 rookies will be competing in the Lalla Meryem Cup including the history-making Shannon Tan from Singapore, who won this season’s opener, the Magical Kenya Ladies Open.

Seven of last year’s top-10 will also be vying for the title with India’s Diksha Dagar, Spain’s Ana Pelaez Trivino, Netherland’s Anne Van Dam, Sweden’s Johanna Gustavsson , Germany’s Alexandra Forsterling and Czech player Davidson Spilkova all joining Cheenglab in the field.

It’s a family affair for the Metraux sisters with both Kim and Morgane competing in Morocco.

There are two former champions in the field with Czechia’s Spilkova who won the event in 2017, and Spain’s Nuria Iturrioz hunting a hat-trick after winning in 2016 and 2019.

Third time lucky for Nuria Iturrioz?

While the field competing this week also contains 35 tour winners who have a combined total of 60 wins between them.
