Norway’s Dorthea Forbrigd had a stunning finish to her 2023 season after scooping up a LET card at the Lalla Aicha Qualifying School.
The 26-year-old from Oslo put on a show in Marrakech after recording rounds of 69, 74, 71, 72 and a career best final round of 65 to secure herself playing rights for a full LET season.
Reflecting on her time at Q School, Forbrigd said: “I played very well compared to the other years so that was a lot of fun and I exceeded my expectations.
“I went in there with a little bit of a different mindset this year. I tried to not focus on what a top 20 would be or what the cut would be. I just tried to focus on me and ended it by playing a game as good as I felt.”
The talented Norwegian also accredits her Q School caddy, her mum, as a positive influence on the week.
“Q School is a different kind of atmosphere, everyone is there for themselves. So it’s nice to have somebody that you’re close to and somebody that you can relax with and spend some time with who’s not in the Q School bubble.
“My mum also bought me champagne on the flight home. That was how we celebrated the week, it was special as I never drink alcohol on a plane.”
Forbrigd is fully focused on preparing for her first full season on the LET after spending last season playing between the LET and LET Access Series (LETAS), a notoriously difficult thing to do.
The Norwegian had some extremely promising results including a seventh place finish at the LET’s Big Green Egg Open.
Forbrigd also posted two consecutive top five finishes on LETAS, including a runner up position at the Lombardia Ladies Open losing out to LETAS Order of Merit winner, Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen.
“Last season went better as it progressed as I was able to get into a good rhythm of playing. I felt like I kept good energy levels which is important.
“The most challenging part about playing between two tours is obviously not knowing when you’ll play. I think it’s a very good challenge knowing that you must perform to be able to keep your re-rank especially on the LET.
“I prioritized LET because I saw it as a big opportunity that if I played well, I could keep my card and I felt like I came pretty close.
“Tournaments are where you grow the most, so I entered LETAS events when I felt like my energy was good to continue the momentum.”
Forbrigd is relishing the opportunity to play new courses this year and expressed huge excitement for the Magical Kenya Ladies Open and it’s wildlife.
The Norwegian is also excited to play in Australia, a country she is yet to tick off on her travels.
Like all Scandinavian professionals, Forbrigd is plagued by the freezing temperatures in her home country so she is spending most of January practicing in the warmer climates of southern Spain to help her prepare for her biggest season yet.
“This season is all about growth, like every player there are things I’m working on. I’m just looking forward to playing new courses.
“There will be some immense opportunities to grow my game.
“Playing against the best players every week makes you sharper and it will make me tougher and improve my mindset.“
