- Team Roussin lead by five shots at close of play on Saturday
- Nuria Iturrioz still at the top of the individual leaderboard on five-under-par
Team Roussin and Nuria Iturrioz still sit at the top of the leaderboards at the end of the second day of the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – Florida.
After the first round was completed on Saturday morning, due to a lightning delay on day one, the second round got underway, but play was suspended due to bad light at approximately 8 pm local time.
Of the 36 teams, there are still eight left to complete their second round including Team Roussin who currently lead with a score of 28-under-par at Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach.
The quartet of Pauline Roussin, Nuria Iturrioz, Trish Johnson and amateur Michael Bickford accumulated a score of 16-under-par to lead by three shots at the conclusion of the first round.
And once they got their second round underway at 3.06 pm local time, they picked up where they left off making the turn in seven-under.
They continued their good form with birdies on 10, 11, 13 with Iturrioz and Johnson both making a birdie each on the 14th to reach 28-under-par as play ended for the day.
Earlier in the evening it was Team Alexander who took the clubhouse lead on 23-under-par having produced a round of 10-under on day two.
The quartet of Casandra Alexander, Gabriella Cowley, Emma Grechi and Jason McCarty surged up the leaderboard as they went seven-under in their last five holes.
Captain Alexander said: “It was just a bit slow today. Yesterday we played really nicely where we made a birdie and then a couple of even pars but today, we just struggled to get going.
“As a team generally, we struggled to get it going, but then we got it together in the last five holes when our amateur made a birdie putt where he stroked so he was two-under – bargain! Gabs also made a long putt and that helped us out, but I think it was a little too late in the round. The front nine really played tough today with the wind. All in all, it was up there and we tried our best.”
Team Ko ended the competition one shot further back on 22-under-par with Team Simmermacher and Team Peláez Trivino both on 20-under-par.
In the individual competition, three-time LET winner Iturrioz still leads the way on five-under-par but will have to come back in the morning to complete her second round.
The Spaniard dropped shots on five and eight but immediately bounced back with a birdie on the ninth, before rolling in another birdie on 14 – her final hole before play was suspended.
Scotland’s Louise Duncan is in second place on the leaderboard on four-under-par having made three birdies and two bogeys so far, but the 23-year-old still has three holes left to play tomorrow.
Spain’s Carlota Ciganda is in a share of third place on three-under-par alongside Czechia’s Klara Davidson Spilkova.
The six-time LET winner and Solheim Cup star rolled in five birdies and two bogeys on her way to a round of 69 (-3) on day two.
“I knew yesterday even par was pretty good in the afternoon, especially with those windy conditions,” said Ciganda.
“This morning, I thought it was going to be a little bit easier with a little less wind. I hit some good shots and my putting was great. I made some good up-and-downs and made good putts for birdie, so that was the key.
“I’m happy to be shooting under par on this course, I think it’s a good challenge and I’m excited for tomorrow.”
Lindsey Weaver-Wright sits in fifth place on two-under-par after carding a round of 69, while world number three Lydia Ko, England’s Liz Young and France’s Roussin are one shot further back.
American pair Alison Lee and Lexi Thompson round out the top 10 on even par after shooting rounds of 74 and 73, respectively.
The second round will restart at 7.15 am local time and after it is complete there will be a cut to the top-60 professionals and ties with round three starting at approximately 9.30 am.
