STRÖM SAVOURING BEING BACK AT ARAMCO TEAM SERIES – SOTOGRANDE

Linnea Ström

Sweden’s Linnea Ström has good memories of the inaugural Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande, despite ultimately losing in a playoff to Team Buhai.

The 25-year-old captained her team of Jenny Haglund, Agathe Sauzon and amateur Alessandro Anzelmo to a total of 35-under-par, having finished T15 in the Individual competition.

But it was Team Buhai captained by 2022 AIG Women’s Open champion Ashleigh Buhai who came out on top.

However, Ström still enjoyed the week and is looking forward to being back and taking on the challenge of La Reserve Club de Sotogrande.

“We had a great week last year,” she said. “It’s nice to come back, the course is in great shape and it’s a fun course to play and I like the team format.

“I think we just had a very good team bonding. We supported each other and we made sure that the amateur felt included in the team as well.

“I think that made him relax a little, so he was able to perform pretty well as well. In this format I think you just need to enjoy it and have fun out there, so that’s the plan.”

Last year Ström picked compatriot Haglund at the draft, but her friend and teammate is not able to compete in 2022 due to injury.

The two-time Epson Tour winner decided her pick for this year’s tournament would be someone she knew from her younger days – Italy’s Virginia Elena Carta.

“We played a lot of junior golf together and a lot of amateur golf,” she continued. “Now for the last couple of years we haven’t played together because we went to different colleges in America and then I play most in the US now and she plays in Europe.

“I feel this is a perfect week for us to get together and play together. I know she’s a great player so hopefully we can have a good week.”

While the third professional in the team will be LET rookie Alexandra Swayne, who is from the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Ström is hoping it will be a great week at the Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande.

She added: “I know Alex is a nice girl, but I have never played golf with her, I’m sure she’s good so it will be fun. I previously picked Swedish girls so I thought it would be fun to mix it up. Now we have three different nationalities.”
