The Ladies European Tour (LET) returns to Sweden this week for the second edition of the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, which is taking place at Halmstad Golf Club.
Last year Jonathan Caldwell won the co-sanctioned event which sees 78 men and 78 women playing for the same prize fund and one trophy with Alice Hewson finishing in third place as top female.
A myriad of stars from both the LET and DP World Tour will descend on Halmstad this week to battle it out for a prize fund of US $2 million.
The event is once again hosted by Swedish legends and icons of the game, Annika Sörenstam and Henrik Stenson, will tee it up as two of the 30 Swedes who will be contesting this week.
Seven LET winners from 2022 are in the field as South Africa’s Lee-Anne Pace (Investec SA Women’s Open), Linn Grant (Joburg Ladies Open and Mithra Belgian Ladies Open), Meghan MacLaren (Australian Women’s Classic), Maja Stark (Women’s NSW Open), Ana Peláez (Comunidad de Madrid Ladies Open), Manon De Roey (Aramco Team Series – Bangkok Individual) and Tiia Koivisto (Jabra Ladies Open presented by Bitstamp) will be looking for further success.
The top nine in the 2022 Race to Costa del Sol are also in attendance with Johanna Gustavsson (2nd) and Magdalena Simmermacher (5th) in search of their first LET wins.
The best-placed female in 2021, England’s Hewson is back seeking more glory in an event where she thrived; while Pia Babnik, Sanna Nuutinen and Olivia Cowan – who all finished in the top five in the 2021 Race to Costa del Sol – are also playing.
Swedish amateur Ingrid Lindblad, who is local to Halmstad, put in an incredible performance at the U.S. Women’s Open with a T11 finish and is one of the invites this week.
Halmstad was the host course for the 2007 Solheim Cup and three players from Team Europe are playing with Sörenstam as well as Sweden’s Linda Wessberg and Wales’ Becky Brewerton.
On the men’s side, Stenson and Caldwell lead the cast from the DP World Tour and they are also joined by Ryder Cup winner Alex Noren, who is a ten-time DP World Tour winner.
Fellow Swedes looking to perform well on home soil are Sebastian Soderberg, Marcus Kinhult and Kristoffer Broberg.
While other notable names are Finland’s Sami Välimäki, England’s Steven Brown and Daniel Gavins, Italy’s Andrea Pavan, Australia’s Scott Hend, South African Trevor Lawrence, Americans Johannes Veerman and John Catlin, as week we Spain’s Nacho Elvira.
