OCEANTEE WINS BEST START UP AT THE GLOBAL GOOD AWARDS

OCEANTEE has become the first ever sports brand to be recognised by The Global Good Awards.  In winning the ‘Best Start Up’ category the judges recognised OCEANTEE’s commitment to driving sustainability to the forefront of the golf industry in “a sector long overdue for innovation”.

The impact of OCEANTEE’s bamboo tees was likened by one of the judges to the plastic straw campaign, which resulted in a fundamental shift that has eliminated the use of plastic straws.  A small change with a significant impact. Other winners at the prestigious annual awards included big names like ITV, SAMSUNG and AVIVA as well as incredible community projects such as Steel Warriors – an innovative campaign which carries out knife amnesties and then recycles them into exercise equipment for the community they came from.

“Winning a Global Good Award has been a dream of mine since I first took an interest in sustainability and social change,” comments Founder of OCEANTEE, Ed Sandison.  “It has always been important to me that we are recognised as a sustainable, socially and ethically conscious business.  Not just a golf business.  We are committed to encouraging the golf industry to make a cultural shift away from using plastic and polyester and hope that this award will help raise awareness of what is possible.”

The Global Good Awards recognise and reward change.  The judges uniquely evaluate a business’s success as well as its impact on the planet, the relevant industry sector, and the global community.  The judges made special mention of the impressive extensive reach that OCEANTEE has made in its first few years which Ed attributes to the collaborations and partnership established with the likes of The Professional Golf Association, The Ladies European Tour, the GEO Foundation, The European Tour’s Oman Open and The Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Swing.

Ed concludes, “We have been able to make incredible progress in such a short space of time thanks to the support of forward-thinking organisations, golf venues and golfers who were ready for change.  I am extremely proud to represent the sport I love, and the industry that has welcomed us, at these awards and look forward to seeing what impact we can make together.”
