The AIG Women’s Open presentation ceremony will include a Guard of Honour formed by junior golfers to greet the new Champion for the first time in its 49-year history.
The AIG Women’s Open, the largest women’s sporting event to ever take place in Wales, will conclude this afternoon at Royal Porthcawl.
In a departure from tradition, junior golfers will be at the heart of the presentation ceremony alongside the famous trophy and showcase the AIG’s Women Open’s commitment to inspiring the next generation of golfers.
14-year-old Holly Miles and 12-year-old Oliver Jones will be given the honour of carrying the AIG Women’s Open Trophy and the Smyth Salver, awarded to the low amateur, into the prize presentation arena. Their participation celebrates the pathway from amateur golf to the highest levels of the women’s game.
They will be joined by ten of their teammates from Llantrisant & Pontyclun Golf Club, named Junior Golf Club of the Year for Wales, to form the Guard of Honour. The club was recognised for its exemplary approach to junior development, with a strong emphasis on accessibility, community engagement, and player progression.
Zoe Ridgway, AIG Women’s Open Championship Director at The R&A, said, “We are proud to evolve the prize presentation in a way that reflects the values of the AIG Women’s Open. By involving young golfers in this important moment, we are recognising not only the achievements of our Champion but also the potential and passion of those who represent the future of our sport.
“It is a meaningful connection between today’s leaders and the emerging young talent. Hopefully, in the future we see some of these young juniors go onto compete in the AIG Women’s Open themselves.”
The refreshed format not only recognises the achievements of the AIG Women’s Open Champion but also underscores the Championship’s broader purpose: to inspire future generations and to champion progress at every level of the game.
By placing emerging talent at the heart of the final moments of the Championship, the AIG Women’s Open aims to highlight the role of young people in shaping the future of golf.
The prize presentation will take place immediately after play concludes and will be part of the broadcast coverage.
