The Lacoste Ladies Open de France is a special tournament on the LET schedule with a rich history. Here are a few reasons why.
- The current venue, Golf du Chantaco is the Lacoste family’s home golf course and this is the third year that the tournament is being played here.
- With 23 editions played to date, some of the biggest names in women’s golf are past champions including multiple champions Trish Johnson (who won three times in 2010, 1999 and 1996), Marie-Laure de Lorenzi (who won three times in 1995, 1993 and 1988), Veronica Zorzi (2006 and 2005) and Lynnette Brooky (2003 and 2002).
- There have been three French winners with Stephanie Arricau (2004), Patricia Meunier-Lebouc (2000) and Marie-Laure de Lorenzi (who won three times in 1995, 1993 and 1988).
- The Lacoste Junior clinic on Saturday 4th October will see more than 100 kids from local golf clubs connect with the tournament.
- Celebrating a 50th anniversary: None of the 78 players in the field were born when France won the World Team Amateur Ladies Championship on 4 October 1964 in Saint-Germain. However, the young French trio of Claudine Cros, Brigitte Varangot and Catherine Lacoste earned a one-shot victory over the United States to lift the Espirito Santo Trophy and, aged 19, Catherine Lacoste took the low individual honours alongside an American competitor. This is an achievement of which she and the entire Lacoste family are particularly proud.
