WARDLE HAPPY WITH FIGHT SHOWN AT PRE-QUALIFIER

Isobel Wardle

Isobel Wardle fought hard to secure her place at the Final Qualifier of Lalla Aicha Q-School which is taking place in Morocco.

After signing for rounds of 75 (+3) and 74 (+2) on the first two days at Samanah Golf, the English player knew she had to have a good final day.

Thankfully all went to plan as Wardle fired a round of 68 (-4) which included five birdies on her back nine to end the week in T12.

“I had quite a few birdie putts on the front nine but holed nothing,” she said. “I was so frustrated that it was like, well, I’ve just got to go into the back nine and I know what I need to do: it’s a case of holing those putts now.

“I made five birdie putts. I nearly made an eagle on the 12th and then another birdie on the next. I holed a long putt on the 15th and then made another birdie on the par 5 and a bonus birdie on the par 3.”

After signing her scorecard, Wardle thought she had done enough to make it through to the next stage and was relieved.

Having had two bogeys and one birdie on her front nine, it shows how much can change in the space of nine hole.

And having struggled with injuries in 2023, the Curtis Cup player has proven to herself that she has resilience and fight in her.

She explained: “I was just excited. I was pretty sure I’d made it, but it didn’t look like that on the front nine, so it’s amazing how it can just change. I’ve had a couple of years of injuries that have knocked me back, so it’s nice that I’ve finally got back to feeling like myself.

“Mentally, it’s shown me that I’ve still got the fight in me, which I wasn’t sure if I had a year ago when I was coming back from surgery.”
