Scotland’s Kylie Walker held a two stroke lead half way through the final round of the Ladies German Open presented by Marriott despite a dominant early display from England’s Charley Hull.
Walker began the day six strokes ahead of Hull and China’s Yu Yang Zhang at 24-under-par, but her lead had been cut to just one stroke after Hull birdied four of the first eight holes and Walker bogeyed the second.
An up and down for birdie from the bunker short and left of the ninth green saw Walker make the turn in level par 36 and she widened her advantage to two strokes after Hull missed her birdie putt of 10 feet.
Both players have won their first Ladies European Tour trophy this season: Hull at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco and Walker at the Deloitte Ladies Open in Holland.
Hull began the final round with a hot putter and started with three successive birdies. She chipped and putted on the par-5 first hole and then rolled in monster putts of 40 and 35 feet at the second and third holes respectively.
Walker dropped a shot on the short second after failing to get up and down from the back of the green, but she made an incredible par on the fourth after driving her ball past the fairway and then threading her ball through a line of trees up to the green.
At 29C, temperatures are marginally cooler than the first three rounds with a gentle breeze for the first time this week.
Don’t rule out the defending champion, Carlota Ciganda from Spain, at 21-under-par and only three shots from the lead after an eagle on the par-5 12th hole.
