VAN DAM SHOOTS STUNNING 63 ON SATURDAY IN SWEDEN

Anne Van Dam

Dutch star Anne Van Dam produced a sensational round of 63 (-9) on Saturday at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed to climb up to fourth on the leaderboard.

The five-time LET winner made a birdie on the second hole followed by a bogey on the third and an eagle on the fourth.

Van Dam rolled in two more birdies on nine and 10 before kicking into another gear with five birdies in her final seven holes for the best female round of the week.

She now sits in fourth with a total of 12-under-par, seven shots behind leader Dale Whitnell, and will be teeing it up in the penultimate group on the final day.

“It was just a very good day, overall,” she said. “I didn’t really miss a shot, I maybe had one bad shot. My layup caught a tree on the third hole, but other than that I played really good.

“I hit a bunch of fairways and greens. I think I missed one green, so I had a lot of chances and hit a couple really close and holed a couple of nice putts. Overall, very happy with my game today.”

This season Van Dam is third in the LET driving distance with a total of 293.43 yards and made sure to use her length and play aggressively on moving day.

“It was a nice day to go out there and play aggressive,” she added. “That’s really what I tried to do today is go for some more pins if I had good numbers instead of playing at three or four right of the pin, to just go straight at it and that paid off.

“I played well and those days you also have to take advantage of it, and I kept on going today which was nice and I never looked back.”

Ullna Golf Course proved tricky on the first two days with windy conditions coming into play, but Van Dam has been improving throughout the week.

The Solheim Cup winner shot an even-par round of 72 on the first day followed by a 69 (-3) in the second round before her 63 but is enjoying the challenge.

She explained: “I just love tough golf courses like this. It’s such a good setup, they did a phenomenal job this week with how everything is set up.

“The course, it’s fun playing with the guys and it gives you a little bit of motivation. This morning I was looking and there were only four girls in front of me and 24 guys, so I knew I had a lot of catching up to do.”
