A total of 68 players from 23 different countries are competing in the 36-hole Evian Championship Qualifier – Europe – at Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, Haute Savoie, France, over two days from Tuesday 31st May to Wednesday 1st June.
The Evian Championship, which will be played on the same course from 15-18 September, is the fifth and final women’s Major of 2016.
There will be three qualifying competitions globally this year and those who are successful in Europe will be joined by a player from Korea and two further players from the United States.
The European qualifier field includes eight players who appear in the top 60 of the current Women’s Olympic Golf Ranking. The 2015 Ladies European Tour Players’ Player of the Year Nicole Broch Larsen (below) and Nanna Koerstz Madsen of Denmark are joined by Marianne Skarpnord of Norway, Noora Tamminen from Finland, Maria Verchenova of Russia, Anne Van Dam from the Netherlands, Fabienne In-Albon of Switzerland and Indian LET rookie professional Aditi Ashok.
There are three further players who will be full of confidence having qualified for the US Women’s Open at the Buckinghamshire last week: Pamela Pretswell of Scotland, Camilla Lennarth of Sweden (below) and Frenchwoman Valentine Derrey.
Last year, the eventual Rookie of the Year Emily Kristine Pedersen from Denmark and Klara Spilkova of the Czech Republic were the two players who qualified and they finished tied for 25th and 55nd respectively in the Major event.
