Two places in the third Evian Championship at stake this week in France

The road to the Evian Championship begins this week with two places available from the qualifying rounds taking place at the Evian Resort Golf Club, Evian, in the French Alps.

A strong international field of 56 players will be competing to be part of the prestigious line-up at the fifth and final major of the season, taking place at the same venue from 10 to 13 September 2015.

Players seeking a place include the 2014 Turkish Airlines Ladies Open winner Valentine Derrey, two-time Ladies European tour champion Jade Schaeffer and the 2007 Portugal Open champion Sophie Giquel-Bettan, who are all part of a 12-strong French contingent.

Ariane Provot is also part of the home charge and will hope to repeat her success of 2014 when she earned a place through the first ever Evian Championship qualifying event, along with China’s Jing Yan. Frenchwoman Caroline Afonso, who tied for second place last year and was awarded a wild card by the board has also returned hoping for another successful performance.

In total, there are 22 countries represented including the United States, Brazil and Swaziland. Other contenders for a place in the Evian Championship include five time LET winner and former Solheim Cup player Diana Luna from Italy, the LET’s 2014 Rookie of the Year Amy Boulden of Wales and Scotland’s Pamela Pretswell, currently ranked seventh on the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit, as well as the 2013 Pilsen Golf Masters champion Ann-Kathrin Lindner of Germany and current leading rookie Nanna Koertz Madsen of Denmark. There are also three amateurs who have been selected from the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, including France’s own Mathilda Cappeliez who lives very close to the golf course.

The second edition of the qualification tournament offers a purse of €10,000. In addition to the purse, Société Générale and Lacoste, two of The Evian Championship’s major partners, will be involved in the qualifiers to offer support to young talents. The two qualifying players will each receive a grant of €8,000 from Société Générale to finance their travel expenses during the 2015 season, and Lacoste will provide an allowance to be used to choose from their range of clothing and accessories.
