Emily Kristine Pedersen from Denmark hopes to continue her dramatic improvement in the Evian Championship as she makes her third appearance in the fifth Major this week.
The 20-year-old from Smoerum finished 47th as an amateur in 2014 and was 25th as a professional in 2015, which helped her to become the LET’s Rookie of the Year.
The 2015 Hero Women’s Indian Open champion has played in nine LET event so far in 2016 with her best result T5th in the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco.
Currently ranked 16th on the Order of Merit, Pedersen missed the cut in the ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters, but she’s been working through some swing changes, which she feels have finally bedded in.
She said: “I used to come from the inside, so I’m working on coming closer to path, so that’s been really good. I’ve been hitting a bit over, so I think that’s why I was hitting it everywhere in Germany. I didn’t really have a good ball striking week but it’s been better and I’ve been working hard.”
She’s been honing her game at the Evian Academy and was the last player on the driving range on Wednesday evening.
She said: “I love this tournament. I’ve been struggling a little bit the last month or so, but it was good on the range today and I feel very comfortable on this course. I feel like I’ve learned from the first two years and I know the course more. I’ve made some changes off the tee. I’m hitting 3-wood a bit more only playing driver on six holes.
“I want to feel comfortable off the tees as last year there were a few holes where I didn’t like the tee shot. I’ve spent a lot of time trying different things.
“I feel like this is a new beginning, or a re-set, so hopefully I can play well.”
