(Tytherington, Cheshire; Stockholm, Sweden; February 16 2004) The Ladies European Tour (LET) is delighted to announce that The Solheim Cup will return to Sweden in 2007 and the emphasis will be placed on the event taking on a Nordic wide appeal. The venue for the matches is yet to be confirmed and will be announced later this year. Ian Randell, Chief Executive of the LET stated: “We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Wales, Ireland and East Sussex National who each presented very strong bids. It was a very difficult decision to take but it is our belief that the development of women’s golf in Europe will be best served at this time by a second visit to Sweden with the involvement of the whole of the Nordic region.
“For everyone involved in the LET and the Swedish Golf Federation (SGF) the 2003 Solheim Cup experience was an incredible sporting occasion with record crowds almost topping 100,000 for the tournament week, which included an estimated 10,000 under 18-year-olds.
“Furthermore, there were also 245 hours of television coverage to 177 countries and in total over 500 media personnel were accredited to the event including written press, photographers, radio, Internet and television crews, not to mention the display of some fantastic golf, excellent weather and solid commercial support throughout the build up.”
