TEJEDO MULET AND SUNDBERG TIED AT THE TOP OF EUROPEAN PING JUNIOR SOLHEIM CUP

Spain’s Rocio Tejedo Mulet and Sweden’s Nora Sundberg share the top spot in the rankings after the first six Official European Qualifying events for the 2023 PING Junior Solheim Cup.

La Zagaleta will host the 2023 PING Junior Solheim Cup on 18-19 September, 2023 when twelve of Europe’s brightest young female golfers aged between 12 and 18 will battle against the U.S. Team on the Old Course.

After the first three events, it was Sundberg who led the way with 162.50 points, but Tejedo has made up ground in the last few months.

The Spaniard, who won the first Qualifying event in Portugal, secured another victory in June at the German Girls Open at Golf Club St. Leon Rot.

Tejedo won the event by one stroke to have a total of 212.50 points and she finished ahead of Germany’s Helen Briem with Spain’s Anna Canado Espinal in third and Sundberg in fourth

At the ANNIKA Invitational Europe, it was Switzerland’s Yana Beeli who took top honours winning by two shots with Poland’s Kinga Kusmierska in second place.

While at The Women’s Amateur Championship, which was taking place at the same time, Sundberg secured 10 points which put her back level with Tejedo at the top of the rankings with just four events remaining.

In the rankings, it is Tejedo and Sunberg tied at the top on 212.50 points with Sweden’s Meja Örtengren in third place with 125 points.

Belgium’s Savannah De Bock is fourth (95 points) with Germany’s Briem in fifth (82.50 points), Spain’s Andrea Revuelta in sixth place (78.67 points) and Switzerland’s Beeli in seventh (70 points).

Team Europe will be made up of the leading six players from the PING Junior Solheim Cup ranking who will be automatically selected, while there will also be six Captain’s picks based on performances at leading amateur events and the European Women’s Amateur Ranking.

The next Official European Qualifying events are the European Girls’ Team Championship and European Ladies’ Team Championship which are taking place on 11-15 July in France and Finland, respectively.
