- Team Nadaud and Team Hall finish the Team competition tied on 24-under-par and will playoff tomorrow
- Ireland’s Leona Maguire holds a two-shot lead in the Individual competition
Team Nadaud and Team Hall finished tied at the top of the leaderboard at the conclusion of the 36-hole team event at the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – London.
With both teams level on 24-under-par, they will playoff for victory at Centurion Club at the end of the third round tomorrow afternoon.
It was Team Nadaud – made up of France’s Nastasia Nadaud, Czechia’s Kristyna Napoleaova, Spain’s Mireia Prat and amateur George Brooksbank – who set the early pace.
The quartet sat in a share of 12th place overnight on 10-under-par and made a solid start with -6 on their front nine and two birdies on the 18th ensured they had a back nine of -8 to finish on 24-under-par.
“It has been fun to play with these three great people,” said Captain Nadaud. “I think we had a pretty good team spirit to be honest. We were all cheering for each other.
“My teammates played very well today, and the amateur contributed very well just at the right times. It will be a great finish, so we’re happy with that.”
Napoleaova continued: “It was a really good round today. Yesterday you two did amazing, I don’t know how many birdies they did but it felt like loads. I feel like we had a good time on the course together. I don’t think the score is enough, maybe top five!”
Prat added: “When one missed, the other one saved the par or even George saved bogey with a shot. We had good timing. It was good teamwork.”
Team Hall were also in the morning wave but slightly later and they were one of the co-leaders after the first round.
The quartet of English duo Georgia Hall and Hannah Burke alongside Morocco’s Lina Belmati and amateur Shane Hart-Jones produced a round of 10-under on day two with a birdie from Burke on the last enough to also put them on 24-under-par.
“We were pretty aware of the situation; Hannah made the birdie to get us joint leaders,” said two-time LET winner Hall. “She did what she was told!”
“We could have had a better back nine to be honest, I didn’t play very well on the back nine. Other than that, hopefully, we can be in a playoff, but we’ll see what happens this afternoon.
“Five-under on my front nine, it was so windy – much windier than yesterday – and I didn’t do a shot wrong, I played really good golf probably the best I have played in a few months. I let a couple of shots slip on the back nine, obviously, that didn’t really help the team. We had a good day again and it was really tough conditions out there.”
Team Maguire, who also co-led overnight, ended the competition in third place on 23-under-par with Team Pedersen and Team Dagar one shot further back in a tie for fourth place.
In the Individual competition, Ireland’s Leona Maguire holds a two-shot lead heading into the final round after carding a round of 72 (-1) to sit on eight-under-par.
After an opening round of 66 (-7), Maguire had a trickier start from the 10th tee with a bogey on her first hole, but she bounced back with a birdie on 13 before dropping another shot on the next hole.
However, it was a better back nine for Maguire who rolled in birdies on the third and sixth holes to seal a round of 71 and sit at the top of the leaderboard.
“It is really windy out there; it’s probably a two to three club wind in places,” said the Irishwoman. “It’s getting swirly in between the trees as well. You really have to commit to your shots. It’s a tough test out there, you have to take advantage of those par-5s and par is a really good score on quite a few holes out there.
“It’s almost playing a little bit linksy. The course is drying out, it’s getting firm and fast, and quite strong wind. It was swirling in places, so you’re just trying to hit a few punchy shots that I probably haven’t used in a while. It was definitely a welcome back to European golf. It’s a good test and I enjoyed it.
“Every week you tee it up, you want to do your very best and it’s nice to be back on the LET for a few events this summer. This was always going to be a really good warmup for Evian next week. I will try and play as well as I possibly can tomorrow. I know the forecast looks a bit dodgy, we will definitely get a bit of an Irish day.”
England’s Hall sits in second place on six-under-par after back-to-back rounds of 70 (-3) around Centurion Club.
Austria’s Sarah Schober is in outright third place on four-under-par with Wales’ Chloe Williams, Morocco’s Ines Laklalech, India’s Diksha Dagar and Germany’s Laura Fuenfstueck all on three-under-par.
Spain’s Maria Hernandez, Norway’s Dorthea Forbrigd and England’s Hannah Screen all round out on the top 10 on two-under.
The cut fell at +6 with 69 players making it through to the final day of the Individual competition. Round three will begin at 7 am (local time) with the team playoff taking place at the end of play at Centurion Club.
