- Team Cowan leads Aramco Team Series – London by two strokes
- Georgia Hall fires nine-under-par 64 to top the individual leaderboard
Team Cowan produced another exceptional day at the Aramco Team Series – London as they carded 15-under-par to lead by two strokes after the second round.
The quartet of Olivia Cowan, Sarina Schmidt, Diksha Dagar and Andrew Kelsey opened their tournament with 14-under-par, which left them in third place overnight, and they followed up with an even better round to be 29-under-par and leading the team competition at Centurion Club.
Team captain Cowan said: “My team-mates carried the team today – they were rolling in so many putts. I was just on the sidelines! We are just going to go out tomorrow and we are going to do the exact same as we have been doing the last two days. We are just going to go and have fun – have a great time out there, hole some putts and hopefully get the trophy at the end.”
Team Simmermacher, who were second overnight, set the early pace on day two carding 12-under-par on the day to reach a total of 27-under-par.
Captain Magdalena Simmermacher moved up the leaderboard in the individual standings and is five-under-par and T7 after two rounds.
“We had a lot of fun out there. I think the team aspect makes it better for us to play better because we are cheering up each other and it makes it easier. Every time you make a mistake, you have each other’s back and I think that is working really well in our team,” said Simmermacher.
Team Williams sit in third place four strokes behind the leaders, while Team Young and Team Johnson are another shot further back and tied for fourth place.
England’s Georgia Hall fired the round of the day as she carded a bogey-free nine-under-par 64 to reach the summit of the individual leaderboard.
The Major winner rolled in five birdies and two eagles to claim a one-shot lead of Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul.
Hall explained: “I played really well and managed to hole some good putts. I hit it really close, my long game was much better today, and I managed to take advantage of no wind. Hopefully, I will have a good one tomorrow. It is always nice to have two eagles.”
It was also a bogey-free round for Thitikul, who is the 2021 Tipsport Czech Ladies Open champion, as she rolled in four birdies on the front nine and four on the back nine.
“I gave myself a lot of chances to make birdie. I kept rolling the putts and they came out great. At the moment it’s going great. For now, I’m just trusting the process and believing in myself. It is an event I have not played before. This is my first time here. It is great that you are playing alongside your team,” said the three-time LET winner.
Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord produced an excellent back half to her round making nine birdies in her final 13 holes to catapult to third place in the individual competition.
The four-time LET winner said: “I started to hit the ball really good and after that I started to make some putts and from there it just happened. I have not had a good score like that for a while. It feels really good to finish it off with a birdie as well.”
As a result of her individual round, Team Skarpnord also moved to T6 and sit on 22-under-par alongside four other teams.
There was a standout moment for Kim Metraux on day two, after she aced the par-three 17th to clinch her first professional hole-in-one.
