Amy Taylor finished her 2022 LET Access Series (LETAS) season on a high with victory at the season-ending Calatayud Ladies Open.
It was a first professional victory for the Englishwoman, as she overcame Denmark’s Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen and New Zealand’s Momoka Kobori in a playoff.
And although it saw her narrowly miss out on her card to the LET, as she finished in seventh place in the Order of Merit, Taylor was pleased to enter the winner’s circle.
“It was really good, I was really happy with the way I finished the season,” she said. “I was slightly disappointed that it wasn’t quite good enough to get the card, but it allowed me to skip to Final Stage of LET Q-School which always helps.
“Last year I did the Pre-Qualifier and it’s a long couple of weeks, to skip that is a win in itself. I didn’t win in college, so it meant a lot for me to win professionally and to do it at the last event was super special.”
The LETAS season finished in mid-October, so Taylor has had time to reflect on her year thus far and prepare for the Final Qualifier at La Manga Club.
And the English player had the opportunity to go to Australia and prepare in much warmer conditions than those in the UK.
She explained: “I took a couple of weeks off and then headed out to Australia. I played the Australian Open thanks to the opportunity through the LET.
“It was one of the best opportunities of my life playing in front of the crowd and the grandstands and alongside the men. It was such a unique event in that sense, and it really allowed me to enjoy it and to get away from the snow and prepare in some warm weather.
“I then went home for a week. My flight out here got cancelled because of the snow. I had a little bit of a panic but I’m here now.”
Having made it to Spain, Taylor has been working on some aspects of her game but is mostly pleased to be outside on grass again.
And having played in last year’s LET Q-School, she hopes that experience and knowledge of the courses will help her out this week.
She added: “I’ve had a couple of days to catch up, I wasn’t able to do much in the golf club I play at as there was a lot of frost which limited what I could do. I did a lot inside. I was happy to be out here back on grass.
“I was really grateful for that opportunity of being able to play in Australia and seeing where my game is at. I didn’t play as well as I wanted, I needed to do some work.
“I’ve played catch up the last couple of days here and I feel my game is in a good place going into this week. I know the courses, so hopefully it’ll be a good week.”
