After a busy summer stretch of golf on the Ladies European Tour (LET), there’s a new number one in town on the Order of Merit.
Chiara Tamburlini, who has been leading the Rookie of the Year standings, now sits at the top of both season-long rankings.
The Swiss star won her maiden LET title back in April at the Joburg Ladies Open and had previously had several top-10 finishes with T3 in Kenya, T6 in Tampa and T2 in Jabra.
In her homeland at the end of June, the 24-year-old finished a share of 10th place while she also made the cut at the Amundi Evian Championship.
Despite having a tricky couple of weeks in Scotland, Tamburlini bounced back in style with a fourth-place finish at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open.
Rounds of 70-68-72-65 saw the LET rookie finish just two shots off the playoff in Ireland and climb to the top of the Order of Merit.
She now has 1,373.44 points from 18 events played and leads England’s Bronte Law by 94.21 points with Belgium’s Manon De Roey a further 15.88 points behind Law.
Speaking after her final round in Ireland, Tamburlini said: “I know there’s still a long way to go in the season, but Rookie of the Year has definitely been one of my goals early in the year already.
“To be on top of the Order of Merit now is a great feeling, I definitely want to try and stay there for the rest of the year. I know there are a few events left, but I’m happy I was able to get a good week in today.
“The last two weeks, even though I didn’t feel like my game was that bad, I still missed two cuts. I was happy to get a really good result this week and set a good pathway for the remainder of the season.”
