Sweden’s Nora Sundberg sits atop the rankings after the first three Official European Qualifying events ahead of the 2023 PING Junior Solheim Cup.
La Zagaleta will host the 2023 PING Junior Solheim Cup on 18-19 September, 2023 when twelve of Europe’s brightest young female golfers aged between 12 and 18 will battle against the U.S. Team on the Old Course.
The first of the 10 Qualification events took place in Portugal with the Portuguese International Ladies’ Amateur Championship at Montado Hotel & Golf Resort at the end of January.
It was Spain’s Rocio Tejedo Mulet who won the tournament with Spain’s Cayetana Fernández, Paula Martin Sampedro and Paula de Francisco Liaño in second, third and fourth place respectively.
Next up was the Spanish International Ladies’ Amateur Championship at the beginning of March at La Reserva Club Sotogrande in Spain where Sundberg took home top honours with second place going to Belgium’s Savannah De Bock.
The most recent event was the French International Lady Juniors’ Amateur Championship (Esmond Trophy) at Saint Cloud Golf Club in France and it was Sweden’s Meja Örtengren who claimed the title.
Örtengren, who was part of the European Team in 2021, beat Spain’s Andrea Revuelta on the last hole in France.
Following the first three Official Qualifying events, Sundberg leads the way in the rankings and has 162.50 points to her name.
Spain’s Tejedo is in second place with 142.50 points and Sweden’s Örtengren rounds out the top three with 120.00 points.
Team Europe will be made up of the leading six players from the PING Junior Solheim Cup ranking who will be automatically selected, while there will also be six Captain’s picks based on performances at leading amateur events and the European Women’s Amateur Ranking.
The next Official European Qualifying event is the German Girls Open which till take place 1-3 June at Golf Club St. Leon-Rot.
