Stars, Glamour and Charity at Heidelberg Castle

The 2015 Solheim Cup Charity Gala Dinner at Heidelberg Castle raised 126,000 Euros for charity. At midnight on Monday, a “silent auction” ended with guests bidding on 80 items using iPads, including a trip to the Champions League with the squad of FC Bayern, VIP tickets to a Lang Lang concert and many more items. The proceeds will benefit the foundation “Children for Tomorrow” (Stefanie Graf), the German University Sports Foundation , the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation and the foundation “Saving an Angel” (Rea Garvey).

More than 320 representatives of sports, politics, culture, business and the media were invited by host Dietmar Hopp to the social charity event with a year to go until The Solheim Cup.

On the red carpet among other stars were Franz Beckenbauer, Rea Garvey, Uschi Glas, Stefanie Graf , John Solheim, the team captains of the Solheim Cup in 2015 , Carin Koch and Juli Inkster, Paula Creamer, Caroline Masson, Sandra Gal and Caroline Hedwall.

“I think it is fantastic what Dietmar Hopp has done here these past few days. I admire him because he does a lot for sport, youth and children,” said the actress Uschi Glas. “He has managed to bring The Solheim Cup in Germany, which is something really special.

“Football Kaiser” Franz Beckenbauer also expressed his appreciation. “Thanks to Dietmar Hopp, more than 3,000 young people are trained in various sports, you have to imagine it!” said Beckenbauer during the charity gala dinner.

Champion swimmer Franziska van Almsick was also full of anticipation for the event: “I think it is something very special to have the Cup here. The tournament is full of emotions, America against Europe, which is always something special.”

The Charity Gala Dinner was part of marathon charity fundraiser that ran from Saturday until Tuesday.
