STAGE IS SET AT ROBERT TRENT JONES GOLF CLUB FOR 2024 SOLHEIM CUP

Robert Trent Jones

Solheim Cup week is upon us as the prestigious competition heads back to the United States for the 19th edition.

It’s been less than one year since the last edition ended in dramatic style in Spain with home favourite Carlota Ciganda securing the point for Europe to retain the trophy.

That was the first tie in Solheim Cup history and saw Europe hold onto the trophy for the third competition in a row having won in 2019 and 2021.

Robert Trent Jones Golf Club located in Gainesville, Virginia is the stunning backdrop for the European and U.S. Team to go head-to-head on Friday through to Sunday.

Team Europe is looking to make history once again as they try to take home the trophy for the fourth time in a row – a feat which has never been achieved in Solheim Cup history.

Having not won the Solheim Cup since 2017, the U.S. Team will be hoping to get revenge and get the trophy back for the first time in seven years.

The captains remain the same with Suzann Pettersen at the helm for Europe, a leader and a fierce player who was defined in her career by the Solheim Cup, and Stacy Lewis leading the charge for the U.S.

Both teams have rookies making their debut this week with two on the European side and two on the American side.

Meanwhile, there is also a lot of experience with the European team having an average age of 28.75 and they have played in a combined 37 Solheim Cups earning 79 points.

The U.S. is a little more inexperienced but has plenty of firepower with an average Rolex Ranking of 26.75 and they have played in a combined 22 Solheim cups earning 37.5 points.

With a few days of build-up – including the PING Junior Solheim Cup happening at Army Navy Country Club – there is plenty of buzz ahead of the competition which begins on Friday.

For the competition, the teams will start with foursomes on Friday morning followed by fourball in the afternoon, with the same format on Saturday, and the 12 singles matches on Sunday.

A par-72 course awaits the two teams at Robert Trent Jones with water in play on eight of the 18 holes.

With history on the line for Europe and a hungry U.S. Team wanting the trophy back, it’s all to play for come Sunday afternoon.
