SPITZ LEADS AT HALFWAY STAGE OF U.S. WOMEN’S OPEN QUALIFIER IN GERMANY

Emma Spitz

Austria’s Emma Spitz fired a round of 66 (-6) to lead the U.S. Women’s Open Qualifying at Golf & Country Club Seddiner See after 18 holes.

The 79th U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally will be held from May 30 til June 2 at Lancaster Country Club with three qualification spots up for grabs in Germany.

Spitz began her day on the 10th tee and started with a birdie on her opening hole before rolling in two more birdies on holes 13 and 18.

The Austrian, who finished as the runner-up in the 2024 Amundi German Masters, made another birdie on the first before making a bogey on the third.

However, it was a strong finish for Spitz with birdies on holes four, six and nine to put her at the top of the leaderboard on six-under-par.

Samantha Bruce of the Philippines and Slovenia’s Pia Babnik sit in a tie for second place on five-under-par.

LET rookie Bruce had her only dropped shot of the day on the fourth hole but then rolled in three birdies on the trot on holes five, six and seven.

On her back nine, she made back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14 before adding another on 16 for a round of 67 (-5).

Two-time LET winner Babnik started her day with a bogey on the 10th hole but soon carded back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16.

The 20-year-old made four birdies on her back nine to also produce a round of five-under-par and be alongside Bruce.

South Africa’s Casandra Alexander sits in solo fourth place after carding a round of 68 (-4) which included two bogeys and six birdies.

England’s Cara Gainer and France’s Charlotte Liautier are one shot further back in T5 on three-under-par with five players in a share of seventh place on two-under-par after 18 holes.
