Spaniards and a Swede lead the Spanish Open

(Castellón, Spain – May 12 2005) Spaniards Carmen Alonso, Marta Prieto, Ana-Belen Sanchez and Sweden’s Linda Wessberg each carded a course record six under par 66 to share the opening lead at the € 275,000 Open de España Femenino Castellón at Panorámica Golf & Country Club.

Stillig’s faultless 67 was her best round as a professional, as was Nagl’s, and Eberl and Sandolo both equalled their best rounds on the LET.

But Sanchez, who finished 10th on the LET order of merit last year, found her confidence out on the Bernhard Langer designed course.

“I haven’t been hitting the ball solid for a while but today was different, I hit some good shots and I’m starting to get my confidence back”, admitted the 2004 Italian Open Champion.

“I wasn’t comfortable with the greens out in Tenerife and so I felt I had to put the ball pretty close to the pin, which was putting me under pressure and I was hitting bad shots.

“But today I knew if I hit a good shot then the green would respond. I just aimed to the target and hit it like I used to, instead of trying to think too much.”
