(Drottningholm, August 8 2003) Silvia Cavalleri may not have been the obvious choice of leader after two rounds at the £325,000 HP Open. But in a bizarre set of coincidences, any fortune teller worth their salt would have told you to get to the bookmakers and plonk ten quid on the nose that the 30-year-old from Milan would lead heading into the weekend.

“I’ve been struggling a lot,” said Cavalleri. “I played pretty well at the Italian Open, but I need to go back to America to make sure I get my card for next year. Today was a good confidence boost to take back over there.”
>With eight Scandinavians in the top twelve, Drottningholm will, this weekend, witness the golfing equivalent of the Battle of Roskilde, which, in 1658, was the last significant Scandinavian war where the Swedes fought on home turf against the Danes.
On that occasion, the gold and blue flag emerged victorious over red and white cross and they reclaimed the Skåne region of southern Sweden from the Danes, some 650 kilometres south of Stockholm, but lost the Baltic island of Bornholm in the process.
Fortunately, all that is at stake this weekend is national pride, the £48,750 first prize and a few Solheim Cup points for Europe’s best to plunder.
