Sharmila Nicollet brings glamour to Buckinghamshire fairways

Sharmila Nicollet brings a breath of fresh air to the British golf scene. The young Indian professional is well known for bringing glamour to the fairways in her native country, but now, the tall and stylish 22-year-old, who has done shoots for Vogue, Marie-Claire and Elle, among others, has decided to make her second home in London.

She has become a regular guest at Buckinghamshire Golf Club, which is hosting the ISPS Handa Ladies European Masters and hopes that it will give her an edge on the competition when the event takes place on July 26-28.

“I’m excited to be playing at the Buckinghamshire and near London. I love the course, love the people around it and I can’t wait to play London and stay there a few days. I love shopping and the only way of dropping pounds is by shopping in London!

“I love the Buckinghamshire Golf Club because they’re very hospitable, they are really nice people and they are very encouraging when it comes to lady pro golfers like us.”

Sharmila expressed her gratitude to Buckinghamshire Golf Club Ambassador John O’Leary for giving her a chance to improve her game. “He introduced me to almost everyone at the club. He told people to take me out to play and I made friends with a lot of youngsters and amateurs and it’s very competitive playing with them.

“The weather there can be a bit cold so it’s good for me to practice in the wind and the rain and also the course is a European Tour style. Coming from India, the grains are different; the courses are much different so it was good practice for the season as well.

“My game has improved a lot. Last year was a stepping stone for me and in Turkey I thought, you know, I need a kick start to the year and I think Turkey was the kick-start. My game is building up and I’m regulating my under par rounds and my scores are a lot better right now so I’m looking forward to a good week.”

Nicollet is the brand ambassador at Champion Reef in Bangalore and recently registered her career best finish at the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open with a tie for 17th.
