We are set for a dramatic finale at the Big Green Egg Open with seven players tied at the top with one round remaining in the Netherlands.
After play was suspended due to darkness last night, and with three holes remaining in her second round, overnight leader Sofie Bringner was unable to convert her birdie putt on the par-5 7th before three-putting for bogey on the par-3 8th to drop to seven-under par.
A par finish on the par-4 9th then saw the Swede close in 73 (+1) to join six other players in a tie for the lead at Hilversumsche Golf Club.
Joining Bringner at the top of proceedings are compatriot Sara Kjellker, Welsh stars Chloe Williams and Lydia Hall, Thailand’s Trichat Cheenglab, Germany’s Alexandra Forsterling, and rising amateur Helen Briem.
“The heather is exactly what we have at home [in Sweden]”, Kjellker said after shooting a round of 70 (-2). “So I’m kind of used to it. I scrambled really well and had to grind really hard.
“I like where I’m at. It’s a good place to be and I’m really excited. I’ve been in this situation before [at La Sella] and I feel like it’s my turn. It’s been my goal for the whole year to be a winner in my rookie year. I just need to treat it like it’s a normal day.”
Following a solid 68 (-4), Cheenglab said “The ball was kicking everywhere but my recovery shots from the woods were very good today. I still made birdie from some shots in the woods which was good. I have putted very well this week.”
Also in pursuit of a maiden Ladies European Tour (LET) win, and after firing a 69 (-3), Williams said: “I stuck to the same process, hit it nicely and gave myself plenty of chances. Nothing was really different to yesterday. I just need to sharpen up my wedges and hole some more putts tomorrow.”
While Forsterling bounced back from a triple-bogey on the par-3 8th and carded eight birdies to fire a 68 (-4) in hot conditions.
“In the end it felt very easy I would say,” the German rookie explained. “I kept hitting it super close, making putts, it was just a great feeling.
“I was definitely frustrated after the triple-bogey, but I just tried to stay patient and know I could get one back. And it worked out. My short irons were definitely the best part of my game today.”
Four players round off the top-10 on six-under par in a tie for eighth. This includes Kirsten Rudgeley, Alice Hewson, and Norwegian duo Renate Grimstad and Dorthea Forbrigd.
The round of the day came from American Gurleen Kaur who fired a 65 (-7) to move to two-under par for the tournament.
With the cut set at two-over par, 66 players made it through to the final round including home favourite Anne van Dam, who bounced back from a 74 (+2) on day one to fire a 69 (-3) and make it through to Sunday.
The third and final round of the Big Green Egg Open gets underway at 9:30am local time.
