The second qualifying event for the 2005 PING Junior Solheim Cup took place on March 24-28 at Golf de Saint Cloud, France.
Spaniard Beatriz Recari beat the Swede Anna Nordqvist in the final of the French Lady Junior Championship.
The Spaniard now takes second position in the overall PING Junior Solheim Cup rankings with 117.50 points, behind the top ranked junior Carlota Ciganda, also from Spain, who has 120.00 points.
Belén Mozo, another amateur from Spain who tied for 14th place at the Tenerife Ladies Open on the Ladies European Tour only one week ago, lost out in the semi final to Nordqvist.
The Swedish Nordvist is now tied for third position in the overall rankings with 60.00 points alongside Azahara Muños from Spain. Mozo is placed fifth with her total of 42.14 points.
Three qualifying events are yet to take place before the final 12 members of the 2005 European PING Junior Solheim Cup team will be decided on August 15 following the last qualifying competition.
The top seven girls in the points table from the Member Federations of the EGA will qualify automatically and a further five places will be decided by the captain and the committee.
The next qualifying event, the Swedbank Junior Open, takes place at Halmstad GK, Sweden, the venue for the 2007 Solheim Cup, from May 20-22.
The European Girls Team Championship will take place in Lucerne, Switzerland from 5-9 July and the final qualifying event will be the Girls’ British Open Amateur Championship, at West Hill, England, from 8-12 August.
The PING Junior Solheim Cup will be played at the Bridgewater Club, Carmel, Indiana, from September 6-7, three days prior to The Solheim Cup at Crooked Stick, Indiana.
The PING Junior Solheim Cup, sponsored by PING, is the only girl’s team event of its kind at a junior level. The event features teams of 12 players from each of Europe and the USA, playing a two-day match play competition of six fourballs, six foursomes and 12 singles.
The junior event was founded by Karsten Manufacturing Corporation (makers of PING equipment) to give junior golfers experience and to prepare them for their future golf career. The United States won the inaugural event in 2002 in Minnesota, while the European side evened the series in Sweden in 2003, leaving the 2005 event all to play for.
To be eligible to compete for Europe, girls must not have reached their 18th birthday prior to January 1, 2005.
