Scottish stars visit Dundonald to launch Beatson Cancer Charity as Official Charity for 2015 Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open

Scottish golf stars Kylie Walker, Pamela Pretswell and Carly Booth today visited Dundonald Links to help announce the appointment of Beatson Cancer Charity as Official Charity for the 2015 Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, to be played over three action packed days from 24-26 July as the event moves to the West Coast of Scotland, the ‘Home of Golf’, for the first time.

The trio of stars, who will all be looking to make their mark at the unique format event that sits just one week ahead of the Women’s British Open, joined representatives from Beatson Cancer Charity, Aberdeen Asset Management, VisitScotland, The Ladies European Tour and the host club to discuss a set of initiatives which will raise substantial funds for the charity.

Beatson Cancer Charity is committed to raising significant funds to enhance the experience, treatment, outcomes and wellbeing of current and former cancer patients and their families. The charity is particularly close to the Ladies Scottish Open as former head scorer Lynn Mitchell received treatment at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre during her battle with cancer.

The golfers present were all part of Aberdeen Asset Management’s team of golfing Ambassadors, and Booth, who won the Ladies Scottish Open title in 2012, commented: “This is a tournament very close to my heart for obvious reasons, and it’s great that Beatson Cancer Charity should be appointed as the Official Charity of the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open.

Kylie Walker, born in Glasgow, where the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre is based, said, “With the event coming to the West Coast for the first time just under two months from now, it is rewarding to know that we are able to raise valuable funds and also increase the awareness of the cancer centre’s outstanding work in the fight against cancer in Glasgow and throughout Scotland.”

Players and fans can expect a number of interactive competitions and initiatives that will help Beatson Cancer Charity raise further funds to help give cancer patients the best treatment possible. Spectators can also play their part by supporting the charity by making a voluntary contribution for the events official programme whilst also being given the chance of winning a number of fantastic prizes. 100% of donations will go directly to Beatson Cancer Charity.

Harry Owen, Championship Director of the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, said: “On behalf of the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open and all our partners, I would like to thank the Scottish girls for their generous support to the Official Charity Launch at Dundonald Links today. Their presence here underlines the importance of the Championship embracing a very deserving

Scottish charity and this one is particularly close to our hearts having treated our former head scorer who sadly died last year.

We are all looking forward to a highly successful partnership between Beatson Cancer Charity and a tournament which ranks among the very best on The Ladies European Tour as can be seen by the quality of this year’s field, which brings together Suzann Pettersen, Charley Hull, Cheyenne Woods, defending champion Trish Johnson and Scotland’s very own two-time winner Catriona Matthew, in a true links test of golf in North Ayrshire in July.”

Lynda Affleck, Head of Charitable Giving at Aberdeen Asset Management, added: “It is with great delight that we are able to announce our support of Beatson Cancer Charity for this year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open. A big thank you must go to Kylie, Pamela and Carly for showing their support today to what is such a worthy cause, and we look forward to helping Beatson Cancer Charity raise funds this summer.”

Paul Bush, Director of Events at VisitScotland, said: “We are delighted to see the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open visit Ayrshire for the first time and are looking forward to the event bringing a great focus to an area renowned for top class golf. It is great to see that the event will also benefit the Beatson Cancer Charity, an organisation equally renowned for its work in the west of Scotland.”

Charlene Elliott, Head of Fundraising at Beatson Cancer Charity, commented: “We are so grateful to the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open for choosing Beatson Cancer Charity as its official charity. Alarmingly, more than one in three people are affected by cancer in the West of Scotland – the highest cancer rate in Europe. As technology advances and new treatments are developed, the demands on cancer services continue to grow so this truly fantastic level of support is so vital in helping us to continue to provide funding and services to enhance the wonderful care thousands of patients receive at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre each year.

“On behalf of everyone at Beatson Cancer Charity, I’d like to give my sincere thanks to everyone involved with the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open. All money raised will go a very long way in the fight against cancer, now and in the future and for that we are truly thankful.”

The 2015 Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish is free for all the family to attend and golfing fans can expect plenty to see and do with a number of celebrities confirmed to play along with activity zones set up in the tented village.

The event is supported by its presenting partner VisitScotland, along with North Ayrshire Council, Dundonald Links, The Ladies European Tour, Delamotte Champagne, Loch Lomond Whiskies, BA City Flyer, Highland Spring and The Marine Hotel in Troon.
