SAGSTRÖM SOARS UP THE LEADERBOARD WITH SUPPORT OF HOME CROWD

Madelene Sagström fired an excellent third round of 64 (-8) to propel herself into the top 10 at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed.

The 30-year-old is playing in her first professional event in Sweden since 2015 and is relishing having a home crowd supporting her.

Sagström, who is from Enkoping, has lots of family and friends on site this week at Ullna Golf Club as well as people from her home club who have come to watch.

And the Solheim Cup winner delighted the home crowd on Saturday with her flawless round of golf.

“I have never had this experience before because I don’t have this when I play in America and I haven’t had it when I have played in Europe,” she said.

“Playing on home soil in front of home crowds, I have so many people from my home club and hometown. It’s crazy when they cheer the most for me. It’s a lovely experience and I’m super grateful everyone is coming out and watching this.”

Sagström has been steadily improving throughout the week opening with an even-par round of 72 before carding a 69 (-3) on day two.

The two-time Solheim Cup player sits in a share of fifth place on the leaderboard alongside England’s Gabriella Cowley as well as American Sean Crocker and England’s Matthew Jordan.

The LPGA Tour winner believes momentum played a big part in her third round and the fact the weather conditions were more favourable with less wind.

“I think the comeback by the girls is due to the wind,” she added. “It’s been a little bit tricky the past two days and today there is a lot less breeze and it’s a lot less gusty. That’s really helped us. Some of the longer holes yesterday weren’t as long today, so that helped.

“You always try and find momentum. I have played really well every single day, but I didn’t really make any putts the first two days. When you start making putts early, it’s easier to build momentum so that’s what I did today.

“I got a few bonus ones in the end. I kept trying to stay present and not get ahead of myself and acting on what I’ve just done. I kept rolling it good and giving myself good chances.”

Sagström will tee it up in the final round at 1.20 pm local time alongside fellow LET player Cowley.
