ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD TRUSTING HER GAME AND LEARNING EVERY WEEK

Pauline Roussin-Bouchard

It was a solid week for Pauline Roussin-Bouchard at the Lalla Meryem Cup as she came away with a second-place finish in Morocco.

The Frenchwoman produced rounds of 71-67-71 to end the week with a total of 10-under-par and be three shots behind winner Bronte Law.

Even though the two-time LET winner didn’t add another trophy to her collection, she admitted she had one of the best weeks in Morocco thanks to the supportive crowd.

“I will take second every single day,” she said. “It’s been a grind; I enjoyed my week a lot. It’s the game. Having someone come from behind like this and shooting super low, it’s the beauty of golf – that’s great.

“I could hear the claps and see the scores on the front nine. You never know what is going on in front of you and so the only thing you can really do is focus on what you’re doing. That’s what I did, and I controlled what I could control and kept doing my thing. At the end, I knew that she was having a day.

“It was fun! Wonderful public, the people here in Morocco are amazing. They are super kind, and that atmosphere was just amazing. On the course, they were supporting everyone and encouraging everyone. That was one of the best weeks ever.”

Roussin-Bouchard, who reached number one in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, turned professional in August 2021 and won at the Skafto Open on the LET in her second event as a pro.

Last season, the 23-year-old picked up her second LET title winning the Individual event at the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Singapore.

While the two-time LET winner also captained her team to victory at the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Florida.

However, it wasn’t an easy year for Roussin-Bouchard and she took a long break in the off-season going six weeks without picking up her clubs.

Heading into 2024, the Frenchwoman is happy to be friends with golf again and is making sure to learn every week she tees it up.

She explained: “This week and last week, I am honestly just trying to see where I’m at with my game. I had a long off-season and I am being friends with golf again.

“I’m enjoying the process a bit more which I think is important. There are lots of positives and I’m just going to keep doing my thing and learning from this week to the next.

“I needed to put the clubs away for six weeks. It was needed and when it’s needed you can’t really measure how good your golf level is going to be when you come back, but it was that or I was quitting golf, so I did it at the right time.

“I got back to basic things and things I do best and after last week, I thought I will keep trusting because there’s a lot of good things. I made a couple of mistakes last weekend, so I knew what I had to make better and what to work on and honestly, it’s working. Learn from today and focus on Tampa.”
